Why we're different.

At SCMA, we believe that music should be a joyful experience, not a chore. Unlike many traditional music programs, we focus on making learning fun and engaging, allowing kids to explore their creativity without feeling pressured. Our journey began with a simple goal: to unveil the wonders of music to young minds and inspire a lifelong love for it. Read more below to see why SCMA is the right choice for your child.

About Us

At SCMA, we are pleased to offer a diverse range of musical activities, including tonal training and rhythm practices, aimed at fostering a deep appreciation for music in young children. Our primary objective is to cultivate a love for music in an engaging and enjoyable manner, ensuring that the learning experience is neither monotonous nor forced. We provide weekly music programs that encourage collaboration among students, allowing them to learn and grow through the art of music. Fun is a fundamental aspect of our approach, and we are committed to making it a priority in our programs.

What we actually do

At Seattle Children’s Music Academy (SCMA), we are dedicated to bringing high-quality, inspiring music education directly to schools throughout the Greater Seattle area. Our team of professional and engaging music teachers is passionate about fostering a love for music in young children. We partner with privately owned preschools to offer weekly music lessons that enrich students’ early learning experiences.

Our approach is simple: we work with schools to provide a qualified music teacher who visits weekly to teach children enrolled in our program. Parents can easily enroll their children by paying a small fee, which can either be included in the school's monthly tuition or paid directly to SCMA through our website. This flexible payment option allows parents to choose what works best for them.

The schools we partner with do not directly employ our music teachers; instead, our teachers are contracted to provide music lessons for as long as the school chooses to offer our services. This arrangement ensures that each school has access to passionate and highly skilled educators who bring the joy of music into the classroom without the added responsibility of managing full-time staff.

At SCMA, we aim to provide a seamless, enriching, and enjoyable music experience for schools, parents, and most importantly, the children.

"I feel like when I was a child, the wonder of music was forgotten by the teachers who'd lost it, I've spent the years finding it again."

Maxmillian Bunnage, Owner & Educator

My personal vision.

I don't think of myself as a visionary or somebody who's thought of the next revolutionary idea. I don't think I'm better than many talented music teachers I've encountered over the years either. I just don't think I've lost the spark within me to convey the fun and excitement of music. I've been around music my whole life, from my dad strumming me to sleep with his guitar, to pouring my heart out to an audience of hundreds through the keys of a jazz hall grand. Music has been everything for me. Through all the pitfalls and twisted things in life, music has acted as a constant good. That's the one thing I realized when I was a kid, though. All the teachers that my parents tried to encourage me with were extremely qualified in their fields. Some of them had bachelors, even masters, one had a phd. As I've gotten older, as I've gone down the road to music mastery through educational institutions, I've understood the sadness in their eyes, the longing for that wonder they felt when they first started playing. When it was just them and the music. I refused to end up without that wonder, as they did. I don't aim to take the wonder out of music for children, I aim to enhance it. I want to introduce music to these kids in the right way, the fun way, the exciting way.

Education

2018-2022

Diploma
Richland High School

My high-school experience was jam packed with music, live performances, educator leadership opportunities, and much more. For me, high-school was a really big turning point in my life, it was when I worked my first childcare job at the YMCA.

2022-2024

Associates Degree in Music
Shoreline Community College

College was very valuable for me but also gave me a new perspective of the music industry. During my studies, I made many connections all around the Seattle area where I learned more about the business side of the music industry.

Work Experience

2016-2017

Volunteer
Special Olympics Washington's Young Athlete Program

My time with the Young Athlete Program was amazing, I had the opportunity of working with many children through fun activities like flag football and other athletic events. My job was to help the children work together in a cohesive and exciting way.

2020-2022

Assistant Coordinator
YMCA of the Greater Tri-Cities

I had the opportunity of working for the YMCA children's program for 2 years. My work there gave me a lot of experience with elementary age children. It was my job to assist the lead teachers in any way I could, which most of the time meant entertaining the kids.

2023-2024

Substitute Teacher

Child Care Careers (CCC)

Through CCC, I worked as a substitute teacher for over 40 schools all over the Greater Seattle area. Many of the schools allowed me to bring my guitar where I'd play music for children between the ages 2-6 years old. After much interest from parents and staff, I formed SCMA.
